The Perfect Day in Salzburg: A One Day Itinerary

From Mozart to the ‘Sound of Music’, Salzburg is famous for many reasons. The city’s dozens of Baroque churches, stunning Hohensalzburg Castle, and picturesque Mirabell Palace & Gardens define the city’s architecture and reputation. Back in December, I spent a quick day in Salzburg, meaning I had to budget my time in the city well to make sure I was able to visit all of its top sights. Luckily, I was able to do so, and I got to see all places that I wanted to in the city. City of Mozart: A Guide to Salzburg, Austria

Known for being home to dozens of beautiful Baroque buildings, the birthcity of Mozart, and the setting to the ‘Sound of Music’, Salzburg is one of the top destinations for tourists visiting Austria. The Hohensalzburg Fortress towers over the city from above, the Salzach river separates the city from below, and the old town’s gorgeous architecture defines its many streets. It is surrounded by the eastern Alps, giving it a stunning picturesque feel. A Guide to Mozart’s Salzburg

Salzburg, Austria, is known as the city of Mozart thanks to its former resident, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Born in Salzburg in early 1756, Mozart, likely the most famous classical-era composer and pianist, lived in Salzburg for most of his early life. From his Geburtshaus to the university named after him in Salzburg, there are many traces of Mozart that can be found throughout the city. Hohensalzburg Fortress

Towering over the city atop the Festunberg is Salzburg’s Hohensalzburg Fortress, Central Europe’s largest fully preserved castle. The Hohensalzburg Fortress is nearly a century old, and over the years it has become an icon of Salzburg. Originally constructed by the Archbishop Gebhart and gradually enlarged by the following Archbishops of Salzburg, the castle has never been captured by foreign troops. It is popular with tourists for the stunning views it offers of the city of Salzburg, as well as for its incredibly long history. This post is all about Salzburg’s famous castle; including info on basically everything you need to know about Hohensalzburg fortress before visiting.
